So, what can you do at Recon?
Firstly Recon Gaming Show is free entry, so you can bring along the whole family for a fun day out. Along with over 30 gaming traders we have a heap of other things going on for you to join in with.
One of the charities we support through the Recon Gaming Show is Models for Heroes who will have a stand at the show. So you can chat with them about the charity, what they do to help our veterans and if you’d like, make a donation.
There will be a Christmas/Gaming themed tombola, with all proceeds going to Cancer Research. This was very popular last year and had some cracking prizes on the stand, so get there early to avoid disappointment.
We will also be selling raffle tickets for the Recon Raffle with all prizes generously donated by our traders on the day. All proceeds from the raffle go to Models for Heroes.

Hordes of Tiny Things
The ever popular Hordes of Tiny Things makes a return.
Hordes at RECON – A small and friendly competition using the popular Hordes of the Things rules from WRG. We play in 15mm scale, but as long as your bases fit, any size figures can be used if you can come up with an explanation for their size! There are no set army lists, just use the army composition instructions in the rules, this gives you huge flexibility in creating the army you want to play with. We play 5 games over the day, with a break for lunch. Entry fee is £5 to cover the cost of entry to the venue, and cost of the winner’s trophy.

War of Saint-Sardos
The Lance and Longbow Society will be putting on a game once again at Recon for you to take part in.
The game we will be playing is a fictional encounter from the War of Saint-Sardos, which took place 1323-1325 in Gascony.
The root cause of the conflict was the confusing question of overlordship in Gascony. Edward II was Duke of Aquitaine, but he owed fealty to Charle IV, the French king. Naturally, Edward was reluctant to do homage for his French lands and diplomatic manoeuvring had taken place over a decade, trying to resolve this Gordian knot.
The incident which led to war was the authorisation, by Charles, of the building of a bastide (walled town) by the Abbot of Sarlat. within the Agenais, which was part of Edward’s French possessions.
The seneschal of Gascony, who had been appointed by Edward, disputed the right of the abbot to carry out this building. In November 1323 the new bastide was attacked and burnt and a French sergeant hanged.
Charles summoned the suspected arsonists to appear before him, when they refused he declared all Edward’s lands forfeit. A force belatedly sent to Gascony by Edward under the command of his half brother, Edmund of Woodstock, was bottled up in the fortress of La Reole and the French under Philip of Valois had free range across Gascony.
Our game has Edmund of Woodstock taking the field and facing Philip to resolve the dispute. We will be using our own version of Dan Mersey’s “Lion Rampant ” Rules and the game will be a participation game so anyone can take part.
